Transcaspian Urial Sheep
The most expensive & desirable of the Urial sheep, Transcaspian, are the direct ancestors of our modern domestic sheep. Transcaspian have a sandy light brown body with white undersides and in the winter, a flowing white neck bib. Both males and females sport spiral horns with mature males having 30 – 45” horns, about the size of a mature Desert Bighorn sheep. Females have smaller horns and will weigh about 25% less than the males. Native to the Himalayas & central Asia, their numbers are declining rapidly due to overhunting and human encroachment. Transcaspian are another big success story in Texas as they are proliferating on enclosed game ranches. Our sheep are pure breed and not cross-bred with Mouflon sheep.
